Our Paediatric Physiotherapy Department will provide a comprehensive range of high quality care for children with musculoskeletal, neurological or respiratory conditions.
The services we will deliver range from treatments for common disorders, to more specialist care for complex problems, such as hydrotherapy, non-invasive ventilation and Ponsetti casting for congenital foot deformities.
This Department will be fully equipped with the most modern medical equipments such as traction, unit compertion, short view, shoulder veil, quad recipes chair, parallel bar, vacuum, remedy bed, stable bicycle, treadmill, ultra sound 2 frequency( 1 and 3 mega hertz).
Paediatric physiotherapy involves rehabilitation of babies and children with neurological conditions. Our paediatric physiotherapists will treat children with neurological and developmental problems. Children with developmental problems may have difficulty at reaching his/her developmental milestones by a time or age that is expected. Developmental milestones are tasks most children learn or develop that commonly appear in certain age ranges. For example, head control, rolling, crawling, walking and talking. Physiotherapy treatment for children with neurological or developmental problems will maximise their potential and promote physical development to reach specific milestones (e.g. rolling, crawling and walking). We will strive to treat a variety of neurological paediatric conditions including:
Congenital disorders including cerebral palsy
Developmental disorders including ataxia and dyspraxia
Cancers of the brain and spinal cord
Diseases of the spinal cord
Peripheral nerve injuries
Our specialised neurological physiotherapists will initially assess a child’s development, movement, strength and balance in order to produce a structured treatment programme which may include:
Re-educating normal movement patterns
Improving standing and quality of walking
Advice and support for parents and or teachers
Working on fine and gross motor skills
Physiotherapy commonly use exercise in conjunction with hands-on treatment to facilitate development. TAP will use a combination of different neurological physiotherapy principles which include the Bobath Concept (normal movement), the Carr and Shepherd Concept (motor relearning), the Brunstrom Approach (synergistic movement) Conductive Education and functional rehabilitation. The treatment approach will depend on the child’s individual circumstances in order to provide the best possible treatment. Treatment is entirely child focused and based solely on what is best for each child.
Some children gain therapeutic benefit from exercising in water. Where this is the case we have regular sessions at our hydrotherapy pool. All our therapists will be trained to prescribe hydrotherapy programs and regularly take sessions in the pool.
